Hi! I’m Marike, a pint-sized South African fuelled by good coffee and adventure.

I’ve been an expat for a number of years and I absolutely love living abroad. After spending some time in Dubai and Singapore, we have now settled in London for a while.

Prior to relocating, I quickly realized that there was a huge lack of transparent and honest information about expat life. When people move abroad, they hardly share the tough times or the unexpected surprises and I suppose that makes sense. But it’s certainly not helpful for people considering a life abroad.

Right now, I’m what some might refer to as a “trailing spouse” in other words, I follow my husband and his work around the world. It’s taken me a while to navigate this role and transform it into something positive. I’ve had to stop and start my career, say goodbye to dear friends and start over again so many times. It’s not been easy but boy, what an incredible adventure it’s been so far!
